1. Measuring your foot
Stand barefoot with your foot on a white sheet of paper, heel against a wall. Draw a line at the end of your big toe, then measure the distance between the edge of the sheet and this line.
2. Choosing your shoe size
If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one for comfort. And if your feet are slightly asymmetrical, choose the size of the larger foot.
3. About heels
Heel height is measured externally, on a prototype in size 37. The difference can be up to 2.5 cm between a size 37 and a size 41.
Our little extra
Each product page provides personalized sizing advice: runs small, true to size or runs large.
Tailor-made attention, for a pair that fits you like a glove.
The Cosmoparis size chart
Our equivalents are based on the actual length of the foot in centimetres.
Size 35 corresponds to a foot length of 22.3 cm (UK 2.5, US 5). Size 36 to 22.9 cm (UK 3.5, US 6). Size 37 to 23.6 cm (UK 4, US 6.5), our reference size. Size 38 to 24.2 cm (UK 5, US 7.5). Size 39 to 24.9 cm (UK 6, US 8.5). Size 40 to 25.6 cm (UK 6.5, US 9). Size 41 to 26.2 cm (UK 7.5, US 10). Size 42 to 26.9 cm (UK 8, US 10.5).
Measuring your foot in thirty seconds
The method is simple and far more reliable than relying on your usual size, which varies from one brand to another.
Stand upright, with your bare foot on a sheet of white paper and your heel against a wall. Draw a line at the tip of your big toe, then measure the distance between the edge of the sheet and the line.
Two details that matter. Measure standing up, not sitting down: the foot lengthens under the weight of the body, sometimes by several millimetres. And ideally measure at the end of the day, when your foot has swollen slightly. That is the state in which you will wear your shoes for the longest.
Between two sizes: which to choose
If you are between two sizes, go for the larger one. It's a guarantee of comfort, and the reason is simple: leather stretches slightly with wear, it never shrinks.
If your feet are slightly different sizes, as is the case for most people, choose the size of the larger of the two. A little extra room in the looser shoe can be corrected with a thin insole or a sock; a squeezed foot cannot.
One exception worth knowing: on a mule or any style without a back strap, the hold relies entirely on the fit over the top of the foot. Always sizing up can then leave you with a shoe that slips off. In this case, check the fit advice on the product page.
The fit advice on each product page
It's our little extra, and it usefully complements the chart. Each product page gives advice that is specific to the style: runs small, true to size or runs large.
This information is useful because size doesn't tell the whole story: the last on which the shoe is built directly influences the fit. In the same size, a pointed-toe style offers less room for the toes than a square toe, and a structured loafer doesn't behave like a supple ballet flat.
So get into the habit of cross-checking two pieces of information: your measurement in centimetres, and the fit advice for the style.
About heel heights
A useful technical point before you order. The heel height stated on our product pages is measured on the outside of the shoe, on a size 37 prototype.
As the last grows with the size, the actual height increases slightly: the difference can reach 2.5 centimetres between a size 37 and a size 41. The same style will therefore be slightly higher in larger sizes, and slightly lower in smaller ones.
This is particularly useful if you are choosing a pair for a special occasion and the height determines the alterations to your outfit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I measure my foot to choose my size?
Standing up, barefoot on a sheet of paper, with your heel against a wall. Draw a line at the tip of your big toe and measure the distance from the edge of the sheet. Measure standing up and ideally at the end of the day, when your foot has swollen slightly.
What should I do if I am between two sizes?
Go for the larger one: leather stretches with wear but never shrinks. If your feet are different sizes, choose the size of the larger of the two.
Do Cosmoparis shoes run large or small?
It depends on the style, as the last influences the fit. Each product page gives specific advice: runs small, true to size or runs large. Cross-check this with your measurement in centimetres.
Why does heel height vary with size?
Because it is measured on a size 37 prototype and the last grows with the size. The difference can reach 2.5 centimetres between a size 37 and a size 41.
Which sizes does Cosmoparis offer?
Our styles come in EU sizes 35 to 42, depending on the collection. Actual availability is shown on each product page.
