Choosing your heel height and shape
Heel height determines comfort, but the contact surface matters even more. A wide or block heel spreads your weight over a larger base: it makes walking more secure, even on cobblestones, and is easy to wear all day. A slim heel refines the line of the leg and adds a delicacy that nothing else can match, but it requires a perfectly fitted size and is better suited to occasions when you won't be walking much.
A useful benchmark before ordering: at Cosmoparis, heel height is measured on the outside of the shoe, on a size 37 prototype. The difference can reach 2.5 centimetres between a size 37 and a size 41. The same style will therefore look slightly higher in larger sizes.
Toe shapes
A pointed toe visually elongates the foot and pairs naturally with straight-leg trousers or a midi skirt. Stick to your usual size without going down a size, as there is less room for the toes.
A square toe is more contemporary and more comfortable for wide feet or when your toes are of similar length. It also gives a bolder look.

The slingback, the pump you'll actually wear
A slingback replaces the closed back with a strap that holds the heel. In practice, it changes everything: your foot breathes better, rubbing at the back of the heel disappears and support remains secure. It's the shape to choose if you have ever given up on classic pumps because of discomfort.
Leathers and finishes
Smooth leather is the most versatile and the easiest to care for: a nourishing cream two to three times per season is enough. Nubuck offers a velvety, matte feel that is very elegant, but must be waterproofed before the first wear. Suede plays on a deep matte finish and warm shades such as camel, taupe and chocolate. Patent leather adds shine, stands up well to rain and cleans with a simple soft cloth. Naplack leather combines suppleness with a slightly satin finish. Metallic leathers in platinum, silver and gold, as well as embossed leathers in python and croc effects, are reserved for our dressiest styles.

For the office, a smooth leather or suede pump in a sober shade on a moderate heel will see you through the day. How can I make pumps more comfortable?
Choose a wide heel rather than a slim heel, and a slingback shape with a back strap rather than a closed back. Our pumps feature comfort padding between the insole board and the sock lining, and a leather lining that gradually moulds to your foot after a few wears. Wear them at home for two hours first to let the leather take shape.
Which toe shape should I choose for my foot?
